I am using the Finding API and have specified the Output Selector to return the Aspect Histogram.  I using this to surface some of my item listings in the Womens Shoes category, 63889.  One of my listing's item specifics is "Shoe Type" with a value of "Ankle Boots".

Why does the Aspect Histogram not return my item specific value of "Ankle Boots" for "Shoe Type"?  Instead, I see "Not Specified".

Why is this an expected behavior?

The reason why you are seeing "Not Specified" is due to the fact that the seller has specified "Ankle Boots" value for the item specific for "Shoe Type" while listing the eBay items.  "Ankle Boots" is not a recommended item specific value for items being listed in category 63889 (Womens Shoes). This can be confirmed by making a call to GetCategorySpecifics.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<GetCategorySpecificsRequest xmlns="urn:ebay:apis:eBLBaseComponents">
  <Version>659</Version>
  <CategoryID>63889</CategoryID>
  <RequesterCredentials>
    <eBayAuthToken>***</eBayAuthToken>
  </RequesterCredentials>
</GetCategorySpecificsRequest>

The following is contained in the response:

<Recommendations>
     <CategoryID>63889</CategoryID>
     <NameRecommendation>
          <Name>Shoe Type</Name>
          <ValidationRules>
               <MaxValues>1</MaxValues>
               <SelectionMode>FreeText</SelectionMode>
               <VariationSpecifics>Disabled</VariationSpecifics>
          </ValidationRules>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Boots</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Dance</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Flats</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Flip-Flops</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Heels</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Lace-ups</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Mules &amp; Slip-ons</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Platforms</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Sandals</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Slippers</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
          <ValueRecommendation>
               <Value>Trainers</Value>
          </ValueRecommendation>
     </NameRecommendation>
</Recommendations>

Since "Ankle Boots" value is specified by the seller, when this item is surfaced in any Finding API response, it will automatically get lumped into the "Not Specified" category since not other aspect histogram fits.
