I know that it's possible to implement compression with the Trading API.  Can I get compressed responses with Shopping API calls?

Currently, the Shopping API is not configured to return compressed (gzipped) results. We are looking into making compression for Shopping API calls available.

Meantime, we recommend using JSON or possibly NV (name value) as the response encoding instead of XML.

Consider the following Shopping API call :

http://open.api.ebay.com/shopping?callname=FindItems&responseencoding=NV&appid=MyAppID&siteid=0&version=547&QueryKeywords=harry%20potter%20phoenix&MaxEntries=25

This call will return uncompressed responses of this size :

JSON : 20 KB
XML   : 27 KB
NV     : 23 KB
