As a developer who is interested in distributing a press release, please refer to the following guidelines. We expect all developers who wish to issue a press release comply with our process. If you do not adhere to our policy, we may terminate your relationship with and access to eBay. Before beginning a press release, please be sure your application has passed the Compatible Application Check and is compliant with eBay Policies.

All releases should be shared with the eBay corporate communications team (press@ebay.com) at least two weeks prior to your announcement.

Any reference to eBay in the headline or sub-head must not indicate that eBay is announcing the news.

Correct: Developer announced a new application for eBay users

Incorrect: Developer and eBay announced a new application for eBay users

Your Relationship with eBay

eBay’s boilerplate and ticker symbol may not be used anywhere in the press release.

Additionally, words that cannot be used regarding eBay and the developer include:

• Partner

• Strategic

• Co-created

• Collaborated

• Exclusive

• Commitment

• Joint

Words and Phrases to Use

  • The eBay Developers Program enables third-party developers to create innovative solutions.
  • The eBay Developers Program provides an open and easy-to-use development platform.
  • Developers have access to eBay's platform to develop a wide variety of innovative solutions to meet the diverse needs of buyers and sellers on eBay.
  • Through the eBay Developers Program, members are developing tools that will help make it faster and easier for users to trade within the eBay marketplace.
  • When referring to eBay, you may not use the words “auction” or “auctions” to describe its site. Instead, eBay is referred to as an “online marketplace.
  • eBay Inc. is referred to as “a global commerce platform and payments leader” or “a global commerce leader including the Marketplace, StubHub and Classifieds platform.

Style Guide

  • Reference to eBay.com should be written as “eBay” or “eBay Marketplaces”
  • “eBay Developers Program” should always be written in its entirety
  • “B” in eBay is always uppercase

Quotes

eBay will not supply a quote, nor will the company serve as a reference for any press interviews.

Trademark Information

At the foot of your release, please include one of the following:

Ideally, trademark information that is as specific as possible about the mark and which eBay entity owns it. For example:

      • “eBay and the eBay logo are trademarks of eBay Inc.”
      • “StubHub and the StubHub logo are trademarks of StubHub, Inc.”

If you cannot be that specific, please use: “[ _____ ] and [_____] are trademarks of eBay Inc. and/or its affiliated companies.” Replace the brackets with the eBay marks mentioned in the release, e.g. eBay, StubHub, etc.

City, State, Month, Date, Year – Lead Paragraph Here. The lead paragraph should tell the reader in four or five lines the basic details of why this is news.

Paragraph 2: Should provide additional details about the announcement and why it is newsworthy.

Paragraph 3: Possible quote from your company’s spokesperson relating to the work done, the application developed, problems that were solved, etc.

Paragraph 4: Summary paragraph, additional details or less important product specs to go here.
