Store Inventory Listings in Search Update
Feature Type:

Feature Enhancement

Anticipated Launch Date:

Live (as of March 2006)

Developer Impact:

Developers using eBay Web Services will now see different behavior using these two API calls: GetSearchResults and GetCategoryListings. If developers specify the U.S., Motors, or Canada site in their API call, a single call will return non-SIF items only OR SIF items only. This change will not impact other eBay international sites.

Feature Description:

If developers specify the U.S., Motors, or Canada site in their API call, a single call will return non-SIF items only OR SIF items only. Developers working with US, Motors or Canada will need to make two separate calls to get both non-SIF and SIF items. The default behavior on US, Motors or Canada will be to return non-SIF items only for GetSearchResults or GetCategoryListings.

In addition, the StoresFixedPrice input field will not work for these sites. The only way to get SIF items on US, Motors or Canada via eBay Web Services APIs is to use StoreSearchFilter.StoreSearch.

If developers specify any other eBay site than US, Motors or Canada, then GetSearchResults or GetCategoryListings will return both non-SIF and SIF items as the default behavior. Optionally, developers working with any other eBay site than US, Motors or Canada can ask for non-SIF items only or SIF items only by using the StoresFixedPrice field (as currently documented). .

Feature Benefits:

In the few weeks since we launched this new feature, it has become clear to us that it has had some unintended consequences. Many buyers have found that their search results are returning too many items, and that search results are sometimes less relevant than they used to be. In addition, Auction-style and Fixed Price listings are harder to find for some buyers, so sellers of these items have unintentionally been put at a disadvantage. We strive to deliver the best experience to both buyers and sellers on the eBay marketplace, and we have concerns that this change is not providing optimal results across the majority of our users.
