My eBay Web Services
Feature Type:

Web Service for Site Feature

Anticipated Launch Date:

August 2005

Developer Impact:

This feature impacts developers who wish to build or enhance the unique functionality found in My eBay to their users.

Feature Description:

The My eBay page is a personalized page within eBay which shows lists of items that the user is directly associated with as a buyer or as a seller. The contents of a user's My eBay page is specific to that user. This content consists of a number of different items lists. These lists range from items on which the user is currently bidding to items the user is watching to items the user is currently selling. The lists are spread across a number of tab pages.

Historically, developers were able to replicate this functionality through the GetMyEbay API. However, with improvements to the My eBay functionality on the website, all of the My eBay functionality was not available thru eBay's Web Service.

The goal of this project is to add new API calls to reflect all latest My eBay functionality through eBay’s web services. These changes are made using the SOAP Schema only, so those wishing to take advantage of the new functionality will need to be using (or migrate to) the Unified Schema.

This project adds the following four API calls: GetMyeBayBuying, GetMyeBaySelling, GetMyeBayReminders, and GetItemsAwaitingFeedback. These calls enable developers to enhance their applications to display more detailed information for each eBay item, such as eBay notes, get the reminders, display the summary view of the buying and selling activities through the API like outbid item count, the number of items received, etc.

These four calls will take over the majority of functionality that the GetMyEbay call possessed, plus some. The following features of My eBay are supported within these calls:

  • Items I’m Selling, Items I’ve Sold
  • Items I’m Watching, items I’m Bidding on, Items I’ve Won
  • Favorite Searches, Favorite Sellers
  • Get Buying and Selling Reminders
  • Items Awaiting feedback

The remaining functionality in the GetMyEbay that is not currently supported is Second Chance Offer. To achieve that functionality through eBay’s web services, developers should continue to use the GetMyEbay API. Note, however that the Second Chance Offer functionality will be ported to new API calls targets in September, 2005.

Feature Benefits:

By providing the My eBay experience to their users, developers will be able to provide a proven user experience to their user community and replicate functionality that is found on the eBay.com site.
