Developer Impact:

Sellers can choose to include Item Specifics that are auto-filled based on the category, making the correct completion of a listing easier and quicker.

Feature Description:

A listing's Item Specifics can be auto-filled based on a category in two situations.

In some cases, the auto-filled Item Specifics are values that are standard for or equivalent to a particular category. For example, in the Software > RIM Blackberry category, eBay might auto-fill a Type attribute with the value "Software" and a Compatible Brand attribute with the value "RIM Blackberry".

In other cases, the auto-filled Item Specifics are equivalent to obsolete categories. This would typically occur when an obsolete category like "Cannondale" (a brand of bicycle) is combined into a more generic category like "Road Bikes & Frames". In this example, eBay would auto-fill a Brand attribute with the value "Cannondale" (if the seller specifies the Cannondale category in a listing).

A new element, Item.CategoryBasedAttributesPrefill, has been added to support this feature. Alternatively, you can use category mappings returned from GetAttributesCS to determine how to auto-fill Item Specifics on the client side when you present an Item Specifics form to a seller.

Please read the Release Notes, version 423 for specifics on how to implement this feature.
